Artist Statement: The feminine form of nature and the mystical life of the dream world play a big part in my work as a metal artist. The fire, the hardness of steel, the hammer’s ring all come together to provide me with the just right challenge in bringing my ideas to life.
I’ve always liked to play with materials to create something new and different. Often my objects have function but some are just pleasing to the eye. I begin to work with a piece of metal that sparks an image, and then I juxtapose it with another piece of metal or sketch out the image I see. I may end up forging more pieces or use scraps of metal that I collect. As I put the pieces together like a puzzle, I enjoy the challenge of fabricating the most aesthetic joinery to create an overall look. I often incorporate found objects or glass into my art.
I admire the work of other blacksmiths, both current and old, and strive to make my craftsmanship better through traditional techniques.
