I love to create eclectic, whimsical art paintings on metal animals (roosters, cats, dog, cows, pigs, rabbits etc.) and other unique mediums such as furniture, linens and wood as well as original paintings on canvas. I grew up in Evanston, Illinois and now call Winston-Salem home (30+ years).

My artistic background was inspired by my father with whom I shared art as a treasured pastime and HJ Designs is named after my father Hilary James. I’ve studied art in Chicago, Illinois; Louisville School of Art in Louisville, Kentucky.

I label my artistic treatments as “impressionistic” and it’s a technique that comes from my heart.  People often ask “How do you know when you are finished?” and I say “I just feel it.” I get so much joy from my creations, that I hope everyone who gets one of my “originals” loves it as much as I do!
